The Marathon® Platinum MasterCard® from Chase is designed for those with very good credit who frequently purchase Marathon® gasoline.
Through the rebate program, cardholders will be awarded rebates towards free Marathon® gas purchases. A 1% rebate is earned on all general purchases, and a generous 5% rebate is earned on all purchases made at Marathon® locations. In addition, during the first 60 days, a 10% rebate is applied to all Marathon® purchases made with the card. As an added bonus, rebates are applied directly to the cardholder's account.
Aside from the reward program, the card provides several platinum benefits such as a purchase protection plan, up to $500,000 in travel accident insurance, and auto rental insurance.
The interest rate for purchases and balance transfers is above average for a reward card. However, there is a 0% introductory rate that applies to purchases and balance transfers for the first six months.
It is important to note that finance charges applied use the "Two Cycles Average Daily Balance" method, which is a more costly method in applying finance charges for those who occasionally carry a balance as compared to the "Average Daily Balance" method used by most card issuers.
Therefore, those who qualify for the lowest rate offered, plan to pay in full after the introductory rate expires (to avoid finance charges), and will use the card frequently for Marathon® purchases (to earn additional rebates) will benefit most from what the Marathon® Platinum MasterCard® from Chase has to offer.
