The Borders and Waldenbooks Platinum Visa Card, issued by Chase, is designed for those with very good credit who shop at Waldenbooks and Borders.
The reward program is by far the best benefit offered. Cardholders receive a $5 savings certificate with every 500 points earned on the account. These certificates can then be used at Waldenbooks and Borders stores; however, they do expire after six months from date of issue.
Not every dollar spent on the card earns an equal amount of points: cardholders earn two points for every dollar spent on the card at Waldenbooks and Borders and one point for every dollar spent on general purchases. Cardholders will receive a $20 Borders and Waldenbooks gift card after their first purchase.
In addition to the reward program, the card also offers platinum cardholder benefits provided by Chase that include up to $500,000 in travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance, and various travel and emergency assistance services.
Aside from the benefits, the card has a reasonably low interest rate for purchases and balance transfers (for those who qualify), no annual fee, and a 0% introductory rate on purchases and balance transfers for the first twelve months of membership.
Those who plan to occasionally carry a large revolving balance may find doing so costly due to the "Two Cycles Average Daily Balance" method used by this credit card to determine finance charges, which ends up costing more to maintain an occasional balance as compared to the "Average Daily Balance" method used by many credit card issuers.
Therefore, those who qualify for the lowest rate offered, frequently shop at Waldenbooks and Borders, and can pay in full each month after the introductory rate expires (to avoid finance charges) will benefit most from what the Borders and Waldenbooks Platinum Visa Card has to offer.
Most Attractive Feature(s):
Earn a rebate equivalent for purchases made at Waldenbooks, Brentano's, and Borders; 0% introductory rate; no annual fee.
